MLP V2 Comes to IW

It is here thanks to Revision McCallen's hard work. The MLP V2 has been ported from SL to Inworldz for all to use and abuse. But the best part is, Revision has decided to open source the whole project just as it is in SL so we all have full access to use it in our own creations. Thanks to Ayla Holt, you can find the MLP all boxed up here: Community Center, The Park (139, 63, 21)

Some have wasted no time in employing the MLP. The creators over at MUSE! have been working diligently to get their set of animations loaded up into their newest lines of beds. Rumor has it they will be selling in the 2200 to 2600 I'z price range. While for some, this is a hefty price tag, early adopters are use to paying a premium for bragging rights. I am sure that price range will not last long once other creators bring their bed products to market.

While the MLP is a very welcomed addition to IW, I would like to remind everyone that the MLP is useless to the average resident unless they have animations to use with it. Right now the only people who can take advantage of this very generous gift to the community are the more established creators with access to appropriate animations. To make this a truly universal gift to the entire IW community, we need animations. It is in this light I would like to invite any and all animators to donate an animation or two to the community that can be used to make the MLP a truly universal gift.

I am not calling for a ton of animations to be given away free, only a few so the average resident can have some basic furniture such as a couch, bed or chairs without being beholden to furniture creators. This shouldn't be viewed as a threat to content creators however. The truth is, many residents will be more than happy to buy well crafted furniture. Yet not all residents are in a position to spend even a nominal amount for what is essentially a game.

We are bring a lot of ideas, products and customs with us as we migrate from other grids. Let us use this opportunity to import one of the better aspects of the other grids, free access to the basic elements of a virtual world. This should include the ability to make simple furniture functional. Revision McCallen has very generously ported and donated the MLP to the IW community so that all residents can create their own functional furniture. Yet the MLP alone is not enough. Basic animations need to be made available as freebies to complete the vision Revision has started. So if you are reading this and you have the ability to create animations, please consider releasing one or two to the community to use with the MLP.

  1. ayla, over at The Mall sim has some great full perm free animations for people to pick up and use as they wish. At Eagle Lake, there is the full perm free animations that come with the AO (just yank them out and use...sits are handy more then maybe stands). There is some free animations/full perm at IDI/Coffee Shop freebie stores as well.

What I am not sure we have is some good quality freebie furniture though. I haven't been in the freebie store for a while, so that could definitely be a plus too if it's not already over there or offered at different furniture creators parcels/sims.

  2. WOW! this is a hypocritical, and you got the price wrong.

So you asking 500 I'z for a bench with only one animation is reasonable, but Cel pricing the items she made with over 20 animations, (good ones at that) isn't?

I tend to stay the hell out of people's issues, but publicly trying to humiliate someone for personal gain is pretty fucked up and exactly the reason I can't stand bloggers over on SL. Grow some maturity, people do read blogs even if they aren't full of hatred.

MUSE is selling some pretty nice items, and if you aren't down with business owners making a profit maybe you are in the wrong line of work.

  4. Lots of points with your post Southie so I will address them in turn. First, I am not sure what you are talking about with respects to a bench. I don't even sell furniture so I am not sure what you are talking about but I will look around when I get in world later today. I do leave lots of junk around.

Those first to market often earn a premium for their products. That is the reward for quick development. That reward is also reserved for creators of unique content. Identifying what I believe to be the first shop to take advantage of the MLP is a service to both readers and to the merchant. My intent was not to humiliate by directing early adopters to MUSE! and frankly it is beyond me how you can see it as such. If you believe stating that prices will drop when competition increases was an attempt to humiliate anyone then again I am at a complete disadvantage.

As for the price range, that was the price range the owner of MUSE! directly told me she expected to be able to get for her beds. Actually she stated higher prices as well but I went with the low end. She may have rethought her pricing in the past few days now that the MLP is open source and not her proprietary property as originally planned, but I am not aware of any such repricing. Your close relationship with the owner of MUSE! Would naturally make you privy to more current information so I defer to you on this point.

  5. Misty Harley, thank you for sharing that information. I don't get out much so I wasn't aware of any freebie animations to speak of. I will be following up as you direct soon enough. Your point about freebie furniture is right on target as well. As more creators come to IW I am hoping that will change as they start to offer freebies to bring notice to their brands. Nothing wrong with a little brand awareness that is for sure.

  6. What does MLP stand for..? It's easy to assume everyone has the same level of experience.... I have no idea.

  7. Sorry about that... MLP = Multi-Love-Pose

  8. The MLP allows a creator to offer items that have multi poses in it for two (or more) at a time to use the creation. cuddle beds, etc that has a few different types of cuddles available. It's pretty cool for those who make furniture.

Southie, I'm currently scratching my head as to why you think Cel has been attacked here? She was the first to release her new beds using this script in IW, she just got free advertising and makes amazing products. At some point she may want to lower her cost a bit (or she may not) depending on how many others follow her path. Creators are always looking at cost versus value as well as what the others are doing in order to stay in the market for a product line. Especially since the MLP IS Open Source and there ARE many full perm animations on the grid for people who know how to build can use to make their own products.

That's not a slam, that's just the way it is, especially furniture makers that include the MLP because so many (creators and consumers) want the MLP in their products. Hell, for all I know Celestria might be going high end to low end with her product line with high end being way more detailed (she has the skillz and can do that to keep a strong edge on the market). In any case, I think you read way more into Tigers post then what's really there. She stated three things:

    1. Muse! was the first ever in IW to complete a product using MLP.

    2. Some might find the product high cost but others won't and those who don't will have bragging rights to having the first ever MLP buid in IW.

    3. She may end up reconsidering cost of items as thing go along.

I don't see a slam there at all and really confused as to how it can be construed as such?

  9. I don't get the hate either. Though maybe Southie and Celestia are mad that MLP is open source already? I don't know.

Anyway, I thought it was a pretty temperate article from Tiger, personally.

Thanks for the tip to go to The Park, freaking beautiful here and the table in the Center is like a one stop shop to get started making stuff again. I was very sad at the demise of the builder's center at the Freebie Bistro so this is a big help to me.

Hope to see you all Inworldz now that I have more reason to log in again.

  10. I will admit that yesterday I should have written this reply after I cooled off and I apologize for my anger, but I will not apologize for standing up for my friend. Misti you have seen me in the forums and you have seen me on the grid I am not the kind of person to fly off the handle over absolutely nothing. Just trust me when I say that this post was not motivated by nothing. It was actually over a spat between her and Pat (yes the lm guy) in the IW forums.

June, you have no idea who Cel is and furthermore your accusations here are pretty much null and void considering every meeting we've had with you has been friendly and you have no grounds for judgment. I understand you taking a friend's word for it, but there are in fact 2 sides to every story and you were not present. The problem was not the MLP script. In fact when it was released to the market open source Cel was ecstatic. She may have liked to be the first, however many residents wanted to as well.

  11. A guess is not an accusation, but that's splitting hairs, so I digress. You're right, I only know you and Cel from I think one conversation I was kinda around the computer for (was a busy day in general for me, if I remember correctly). I saw no other reason for such hatred, and said as much.

I don't know either person's "side" beyond this article. I've been pretty absent from Inworldz and their forums for awhile now, so I was only going with the impression I got from your reaction to this piece.

  12. yeah, I saw the forum post and do agree that it could be construed the wrong way by those who stated it (and OVERSHARE! LOL) I don't know what happened after and the last post I saw from there is by T. but honestly Southie, I still only see a positive here and no real link to that thread. Cel has bragging rights for being the first person to get her product out. She has been waiting forever for something like this and finally able to use it. To me, this reads free advertising for her and good advertising at that. If, as a consumer, I used this sort of thing and knowing how great she builds...I would be buying it from her so I could say in 4 years "I have the first MLP ever in IW" (cause that would be way cool!)

In any case, your right...this sorta threw me since I do know you from around the grid, etc and it's not the 'you' I know.
